Troop visit by the Minister of Defence On Friday, 19 July 2024, the Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, will once again visit the Eckernförde naval base. He will visit the 1st submarine squadron and the naval battalion. Discussions are planned with the respective leadership of the units as well as with the soldiers. After a dynamic demonstration of the sea battalion's capabilities, the minister will go diving in the submarine and then give his press statement. The long farewell to the Sea King Mk41 multi-role transport helicopter Tomorrow, Thursday 18 July 2024, a media event will take place at the naval air base in Nordholz. The first plans to procure the helicopters for the German Navy began in 1964. The first Sea King of the naval aviators flew for the first time in England in March 1972, built by the British company Westland. The Sea King has been in Search and Rescue (SAR) service since 1975 and still flies missions over the North and Baltic Seas today. In its early days, the Sea King was outstandingly modern and it continues to prove its qualities to this day....

Frigate "Brandenburg" returns from the Mediterranean

On Saturday, 13 July 2024, the frigate "Brandenburg" is expected back in Wilhelmshaven from the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) mission in the Mediterranean. Under the command of frigate captain Andreas Scheiba, the crew left Wilhelmshaven in March 2024 to assist with maritime surveillance off the Lebanese coast and training the Lebanese navy as part of the UNIFIL mission. Numerous manoeuvres took place with international partners. Furthermore, the Lebanese armed forces were trained as part of the mission and there was an exchange between crew members of the frigate and their comrades from the Lebanese Navy stationed on the mainland.

Tender "Donau" returns to Kiel Tender "Donau" is expected back in its home port of Kiel on 12 July 2024. Over the past six months, the tender has made the German contribution to one of NATO's standing formations. The tender was also part of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force Maritime (VJTF (M)) for the North and Baltic Seas.
