US Coast Guard checks Chinese fishermen in the South Pacific

After six Chinese fishing boats violated the fishing laws of the Republic of Vanuatu, a group of islands east of Australia, they were inspected by the local police. The special thing about this is that the inspection was carried out from a US Coast Guard ship, which was patrolling the waters of the Pacific island state for the first time. The basis for such 'missions' are bilateral agreements with the USA, the so-called Shiprider Agreement, which allows law enforcement officers of the contracting state to carry out patrols in their territory and in their exclusive economic zone (EEZ) on board US Coast Guard (USCG) vessels. In joint teams, host nation authorities utilise the strength of the US fleet to enforce maritime laws and enforce...

German Naval Yards: More than a shipyard!

The shock caused by the death of owner Iskandar Safa was huge. Questions and rumours arose. Time for clarifying words. People know us, the German Naval Yards. The traditional shipyard on the Kiel Fjord with the iconic gantry crane. And yet very few people know who and what is behind the company! After the sad news, misinformation made the rounds. People mistakenly thought we had already been "sold". For us, this question didn't even arise, because it was and is clear to us: his son Akram, born and raised in the south of France and who has been running the business activities of his father's company for some time,...

Baltic Sea: Russian special unit for underwater reconnaissance visits

Another eye-catching visitor is likely to keep the Baltic Sea neighbours busy. On 13 May 2024, the "Tchusovoy", GS 31 (project 1454), was photographed in the Great Belt by Michael Nitz. In Russian terminology, it is referred to as a 'hydroacoustic reconnaissance vessel', also known as a 'small reconnaissance vessel'. The ship, which displaces 1,700 tonnes and is just under sixty metres long, looks superficially like a Sorum-class ocean-going tug, project 0745P, of which the Russian Navy has 14 units according to Military Balance 2023. On closer inspection, the special design of the stern, which is used to deploy and accommodate its towing sonar, becomes apparent. The special design of the stern as well as the possibility of...

Good neighbourliness at TAMM Media: HANSA Yachts

Congratulations, colleagues! The new website of the magazine "HANSA YACHTS" is here: www.hansa-yachts.com Every now and then we also publish reports about yachts in marineforum, but strictly speaking this is not really our core competence. However, as maritime experts we are often contacted on this subject, so we refer to our neighbours. After all, we live together in the TAMM Media Group. With ship descriptions, technological innovations, shipyard stories, interviews, market reports and "people news", the new website covers the entire spectrum of the yachting industry. It's all about technology, not Monaco gossip and blue press. So it's for professionals! Yacht owners,...
