Even those who need no more convincing of the flight and manoeuvrability of the single-engine F-35A Lightning II must be allowed to watch this video from this year's Pacific Airshow on 30 September over Huntington Beach in California south of Los Angeles! The U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy are more likely to be flying the F-35B and F-35C, but they are the same aircraft types. The US Air Force pilot, Major Kristin Wolfe, flies this aircraft as if the Swiss physicist and mathematician Daniel Bernoulli (1700 - 1782) had just retired. On Friday, 6 October 2023, a double change of command took place in the 2nd Frigate Squadron. Under overcast skies and in almost autumnal temperatures, Frigate Captain Jan Fitschen (45) was replaced after three and a half years in command of the frigate HAMBURG by Frigate Captain Andreas Schmidt (42), who had previously handed over command of the frigate SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN to Frigate Captain Bastian Saphörster (42). The squadron commander, Captain Olliver Pfenning (48), emphasised the special nature of this double handover in his speeches. On the one hand it was a "burden sharing", on the other a "win-win situation". In Kiel hat sich das Seapower Sympolium mittlerweile zu einer festen Instanz entwickelt. Diesmal stand der Einfluss der Zeitenwende auf die internationale maritime Sicherheitspolitik im Mittelpunkt. Am 15. Juni kamen knapp hundert internationale Expertinnen und Experten aus Wissenschaft, Militär und Politik zum Kiel International Seapower Symposium (KISS) in Kiel zusammen.
