Europas größte Volkswirtschaft und einst Russlands größter Erdgasimporteur, Deutschland, hat bisher kein russisches LNG direkt importiert. Seit über zwei Jahren fließt auch kein russisches Pipelinegas mehr. Die Gründe sind bekannt. Als Ersatz für das russische Gas wurden mit staatlichen Hilfen mehrere LNG-Terminals in Brunsbüttel, Wilhelmshaven, Stade und Mukran/Rügen errichtet. Seitdem wird LNG aus den Vereinigten Staaten, Katar und anderen Ländern in den betriebsbereiten Regasifizierungsanlagen verwendet sowie über Pipelinegas aus Norwegen eingespeist.
