The former 10,000-tonne general cargo freighter "MS Dresden" has served as a technical museum since 1970 and is located on the banks of the Warnow River right next to Rostock's IGA Park. Although the ship's engine room is well preserved, the engines have not been running for 50 years. Over the past five years, volunteers and technicians have successfully invested around 13,640 working hours in the repair of two diesel generators. On Monday, 16 September 2024, the minehunting vessel "Weilheim", which is part of the 3rd Minehunting Squadron, will leave its home port of Kiel. Together with the tender "Werra", the "Weilheim" will provide the German contribution to the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG 1) for the North Sea and Baltic Sea area over the next six months. For Corvette Captain Maximilian Hirnstein, this is the first major voyage in his role as commander of the "Weilheim". In the late morning of 29 August 2024, a fire broke out on one of the diesel generators on board the frigate HNLMS "Evertsen" (144 metres, 6000 tonnes) for reasons as yet unknown.
