The "Sun" explores the Indian Ocean

Erstmals untersuchten...

Day of the sea rescuers

The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) has been realising the rescue of human lives from distress at sea and dangerous situations in the German areas of the North Sea and Baltic Sea for 159 years. "Maritime Rescue Day" is held once a year on the last Sunday in July and each participating station offered its own programme on 28.07.2024. In addition, patient transports with rescue boats and, depending on availability, rescue helicopters were demonstrated. Volunteer sea rescue helpers presented themselves at information stands...

Norway goes Indo-Pacific

Germany is not alone in wanting to play a greater role in the Indo-Pacific. The Norwegian Navy will take part in the Indo-Pacific voyage of an aircraft carrier group led by the Royal Navy scheduled for 2025. "This is a significant Norwegian contribution to ensuring security and the free use of the sea," said Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram during a visit to his British counterpart John Healey in London on 6 August 2024. Gram went on to say that developments in the Indo-Pacific region are becoming increasingly important for global security and are also receiving increased attention in NATO. Ultimately, the developments there would not remain without an impact on...

Welcome on board - the German Navy at the Hanse Sail 2024

From Friday to Sunday, 9 to 11 August 2024, the gates at the naval base on Hohe Düne will open again for the "Open Stützpunkt". It's that time again: Hanse Sail! And what would this traditional event be without the Bundeswehr as an ingredient? But it's not just the navy that is hosting the event, members of the army and air force are also presenting themselves at the Hohe Düne naval base and on the passenger quay in Warnemünde. "My team and I are proud to once again be one of the crowd-pullers at this major maritime event this year. In particular, the direct dialogue between the soldiers and the guests is one of the highlights of the...

Greece sells its old tonnage

The Greeks are apparently getting out of the Russian oil transport business. The largest ship-owning nation in the world, measured by the carrying capacity of its ships, is obviously profiting more from the lucrative sale of its outdated ships, thereby enabling Moscow to circumvent sanctions at the same time. Greek shipowners are selling their depreciated tankers - mostly 15 to 20 years old - at a profit to mysterious buyers with connections to Russia. A dubious business model: keyword "shadow fleet", but not illegal; and certainly enterprising. And even the EU's 14th sanctions package against Russia from June 2024 will not take action against the shadow fleet. kdk Source:...
