IMMH: "Treasures of Monte Olivia" on show from June.

The International Maritime Museum Hamburg (IMMH) will open the "sunken treasures of the Monte Olivia" to the public from 1 June 2023. The "Monte Olivia" The 160-metre-long ship was launched by Blohm&Voss on 28 October 1924 and was put into service in 1925 by the Hamburg-Südamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft (HSDG), or Hamburg Süd for short, as a passenger ship for 2,500 passengers on cruises. Returning home from Santos in Brazil after the outbreak of war, the "Monte Olivia" managed to break through the blockade to Hamburg in October 1939. As an important shipping location with the great significance of its ports for the flow of goods in an export-orientated economy, Germany is...

The crew of the "Elbe" will certainly not forget the last few weeks. After almost five months of deployment in the Aegean, there was another very special mission in the last few weeks. The reason for this was the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. The ports of Iskenderun and Mersin in Turkey have been called at unscheduled in recent weeks in order to help the people affected by the...

USA: Container gantry cranes are the new Huawei

Large, modern container crane systems made in the USA are very expensive and quite rare, but every up-and-coming port needs them. Unless, of course, they come from China. There, these cranes are built en masse, packed with locally manufactured electronics and then offered worldwide at unbeatable prices with a market share of 70%. Video-supported functions allow efficient handling processes - harbour laytime is expensive time. Undoubtedly without ulterior motives What had probably never been questioned before, however, were such unpatriotic doubts as: Who has access to the stored video streams and what possibility of external intervention is there for the most important electronic switching elements of these complex high-tech devices? With the looks...
