German Shipping Day 2022 Come on board

With the comprehensive indictment, the public prosecutor's office accuses two former board members of Elsflether Werft AG (EW AG) of commercial fraud in a particularly serious case to the detriment of the naval arsenal in Wilhelmshaven (MArs). Between 2014 and 2018, the two men are alleged to have been responsible for systematically submitting incorrect invoices for third-party services to EW AG.

Frigate "Hessen" joins US carrier organisation

Today, on 5 September 2022, the frigate "Hessen" is leaving its home port to join the US Carrier Strike Group (CSG) under the command of Frigate Captain Volker Kübsch. Together with the American aircraft carrier "USS Gerald R. Ford", the German frigate will primarily operate within the air defence unit and is an integral part of the aircraft carrier group. Obituary

Wolfgang Petersen, world-famous director and responsible for wonderful blockbusters such as "Air Force One", "Outbreak", "Line of Fire", "The Tempest" and "Troy", passed away in Los Angeles on 12 August. The son of a naval officer, he was born in Emden on 14 March 1941. We don't know whether his childhood in Transvaal near the harbour and in Hamburg Bramfeld was the reason for his affinity with ships and the sea, but as the RND reports, "our man in Hollywood" was particularly proud of "Das Boot". Tradition meets innovation

GORCH FOCK and the frigate NORDRHEIN WESTFALEN met in the western Baltic Sea. One of the oldest ships in the German Navy meets the newest unit. This is the young officer candidates' encounter with their future job, at least for the future seafarers.
