Denmark: Hull Vane for OPV NORDSØEN

At the beginning of May 2023, the Hvide Sande shipyard on the Danish west coast handed over the first offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to the Danish Fisheries Agency. It was delivered with azimuth propulsion nacelles and in combination with a guide plate (hull vane) under the stern. For the development and function of a hull vane, see the article "Netherlands: Hull Vane for the GRONINGEN" from 12 February 2023. Objectives In the public tender, emphasis was placed on low life cycle costs and energy efficiency. Hvide Sande Shipyard therefore already cooperated with...

However, it will not be travelling through the Rhine itself, but will be transported on a floating pontoon from Kiel to Speyer in Rhineland-Palatinate. There it will be refurbished at the Technik Museum Speyer and is expected to be transferred to the Technik Museum Sinsheim a year later.

On 4 May 2023, construction number 7 of the Braunschweig class was christened "Emden" by Ms Annette Lehnigk-Emden at the traditional Hamburg shipyard Blohm & Voss, which has belonged to Lürssen Defence since 2016 and is now part of the NVL Group. As a direct descendant of a crew member of the small cruiser "Emden" from the time of the First World War, Mrs Lehnigk-Emden bears the traditional name affix and has now also taken over the sponsorship of the naval vessel. She was also recently appointed President of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) by the new Minister of Defence and performed one of her first official acts with the naming ceremony....
