Big day in Wolgast Steel construction began at the Peene shipyard site in Wolgast for the second Class 424 fleet service boat, which will be launched several months earlier than planned to replace the Bundeswehr's OSTE class in the near future. The approximately 130 metre long ships serve as reconnaissance platforms with state-of-the-art sensor technology and fulfil current military requirements. A legend has finally embarked on its last voyage - albeit not on its own keel! The last seven of the Class 143A fast patrol boats decommissioned at the end of 2016 and laid up at the Kiel Naval Arsenal (MArs Kiel) have been transferred to the Dutch heavy-lift transport ship MV "Happy Sky" in a loading and securing operation lasting several weeks.
