DB Schenker: Electric - Autonomous - Emission-free

DB Schenker is planning an electrically powered autonomous coastal container feeder in Norway. Two-way data communication solution between ship and coastal control centre will revolutionise the sea freight sector. Plans to operate a zero-emission coastal container feeder vessel between Ikornnes Quay and the port of Ålesund in Norway were recently unveiled. The autonomous and all-electric vessel will utilise Naval Dynamics' NDS AutoBarge 250 concept, developed in collaboration with Kongsberg and Massterly. With the signing of the preliminary study contract, DB Schenker and its co-operation partners - furniture giant Ekornes and ship designers Naval Dynamics, Kongsberg and Massterly - have taken the first steps towards replacing the traditional feeder vessels used in this Norwegian port....

Half a billion euros for "Polarstern II"

The "Polarstern I" is to be replaced in 2027. The Bundestag has cleared the way for the construction of the research vessel "Polarstern II", which has been particularly eagerly awaited by the German shipbuilding industry. The Budget Committee approved additional funds so that the major project, which is important for climate protection research, can be put out to tender. The new ship is due to replace the ageing "Polarstern" in 2027. The ship drifted in the ice around the North Pole for a year in 2019/20 while scientists from many countries researched the effects of climate change. Container shipping: When Shanghai reopens

Chaos in the supply chain predicted when shipping resumes in Shanghai. According to expert estimates, supply chain disruptions led to 260,000 TEU not being shipped from Shanghai in April alone.
