Unter dem Titel „Verbundenheit hat Meer verdient“ informierte der Freundeskreis Marineschiffe KÖLN 2017 in einer Broschüre die Öffentlichkeit über die von ihm mitunterstützte Entscheidung des damaligen Inspekteurs der Marine, Vizeadmiral Andreas Krause, die fünf neuen Korvetten des zweiten Loses der Klasse 130 nach den Städten AUGSBURG, EMDEN, KARLSRUHE, KÖLN und LÜBECK zu benennen. Diese Beibehaltung der fünf traditionsreichen Namen von Schiffen deutscher Marinen ist Grundlage der Patenschaftspflege als Ausdruck bürgerlicher Solidarität mit maritimer Sicherheit.  Am 21. April wird deshalb die Oberbürgermeisterin der Stadt Köln, Henriette Reker, als sechste Bürgermeinsterin der Domstadt die neue Korvette auf den Namen KÖLN taufen....

Mitte Februar verbreitet sich rasant eine Meldung, die russische Marine habe ein US-Unterseeboot aus ihren Gewässern vertrieben. Kaum jemand prüft die Nachricht. In der heutigen Zeit fällt es zunehmend schwer, eine glaubhaft klingende Erfindung oder Verfälschung von sachlich richtiger Information zu unterscheiden. Wenn jedermann seine Wunschwahrheit ungehindert kundtun und diese ihm passende Erzählung vervielfältigen kann, dann wird journalistische Tätigkeit zum Wagnis.
