The news about refugees being picked up by sea is becoming increasingly spectacular. What was recently "only" an eleven-day journey from Nigeria to La Palma/Tenerife was survived by four stowaways on the rudder blade of a Liberian freighter/tanker after 5,000 nautical miles in mid-July! The as yet unnamed ship had set sail from Lagos/Nigeria at the end of June and had been travelling for thirteen days before Brazilian federal police discovered the four men without papers and verifiable identity in poor physical condition under the stern.
