Hamburg - The Houthis are once again threatening the shipping companies

The Houthi rebels from Yemen want to expand their attacks beyond the Red Sea and are threatening to attack merchant ships worldwide, according to the German Shipowners' Association (VDR). This is urgently needed in view of the significant increase in suspicious drone activity over military and critical infrastructure. It also arises from the experience of war in Ukraine and above all in the Red Sea, where the Houthi rebels are now successfully using swarms of drones against ships. As technology and tactics are also constantly evolving in drone warfare,...

Russia - Sanctions end shipyard orders

The Russian shipbuilding industry is now feeling the effects of Western sanctions more clearly. According to the latest reports, a major order for urgently needed icebreakers has been cancelled. Russian media report that the state-owned port operator Rosmorport has cancelled an order to a Russian shipyard for two icebreakers worth over 171 million euros. They had been ordered in July 2021, before the invasion of Ukraine, and were originally due to be delivered in 2024. Sanctions are cited as the reason for the postponement of the delivery date to December 2026 and now for the cancellation of the entire order, as important equipment from the West...
