Christening of the corvette AUGSBURG - Fourth unit of the second batch officially christened "Augsburg" in Hamburg at NVL On 8 May 2025, the fourth corvette of the second batch of class 130 was officially christened "Augsburg" at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg. The festive ceremony took place in the presence of numerous representatives from politics, the Bundeswehr and industry. The godmother was Sigrun Maxzin-Weigel, Director of the Evangelical Children's and Youth Welfare Centre in Augsburg. Is the defence sector affected? At the end of April 2025, the Dutch public prosecutor's office publicised its investigation into Damen Shipyards and former executives. There is suspicion of corruption and discrepancies in procurement contracts. Investigators from the Dutch Financial Investigation and Prosecution Service (Fiscale Inlichtingen- en Opsporingsdienst, FIOD) allege that unclear payments were made to intermediaries for ship sales in Africa, Asia and South America between 2006 and 2017. Further step in German-Norwegian cooperation thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and the Norwegian Ulstein Verft signed a letter of intent at the Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) trade fair in Oslo to strengthen industrial cooperation in Norway. The aim is to combine the capabilities of both shipyards. The letter of intent of 26 March is an important step towards strengthening industrial cooperation between Germany and Norway. Peene shipyard delivers customs vessel The Peene shipyard in Wolgast handed over the first of three new customs vessels to German customs yesterday. Planning, design and production were completed on schedule. The ship has an LNG (liquid natural gas) propulsion system and was transferred to Emden before being handed over.
