Hamburg - The Houthis are once again threatening the shipping companies

The Houthi rebels from Yemen want to expand their attacks beyond the Red Sea and are threatening to attack merchant ships worldwide, according to the German Shipowners' Association (VDR). The VDR condemns the threat in the strongest possible terms and is once again calling for more German naval presence. Hamburg - Shore power compulsory for cruise ships

The Port of Hamburg wants to be faster than the European Union. According to the Senator for Economic Affairs, Dr Melanie Leonhard (SPD), cruise ships will have to use the green shore power available in the port from 2027. In the EU, the regulation does not apply until 2030 and the obligation to use shore-side electricity applies to all ships that are technically capable of doing so. "Gorch Fock" sets off on a unique training voyage

Focus on recruiting young talent On Saturday, 9 August 2025 at 12 noon, the sail training ship "Gorch Fock" will leave its home port of Kiel for a very special voyage, a late summer voyage, as part of the 187th/188th foreign training voyage. On Tuesday, 5 August 2025, the ship will move to Sartorikai and take part in events related to the Ocean Race Europe. The following Friday, the "Gorch Fock" will set sail on a day trip. This foreign training voyage of the "Gorch Fock" is unique: it combines maritime tradition, social proximity and training with innovative forms of recruiting young talent - and creates numerous opportunities for citizens to experience the German Navy's sail training ship up close.
