Unter der Leitung des Leibniz-Instituts für Ostseeforschung Warnemünde (IOW) war das deutsche Forschungsschiff "Sonne" aus Wilhelmshaven (Eigner: BMBF) in einer rund dreiwöchigen Expedition vom 16. Juli, Start in Singapur, bis zum 5. August, Ende in Port Louis auf Mauritius, im Einsatz. Ziel der Expedition war es, menschlich verursachten Umweltstress zu quantifizieren und erstmals eine Risikoabschätzung für das Untersuchungsgebiet zu ermöglichen. In besonderem Fokus stehen neu auftretende Schadstoffe wie Mikroplastik, künstliche Östrogene und polyzyklische aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe. The propulsion engines and generator sets for the power supply of the three new Miecznik multipurpose frigates for the Polish Navy are currently being built at the Rolls-Royce Power Systems Division in Friedrichshafen.
