Damen Shipyards was once again able to impress when the Dutch shipyard group handed over Germany's first fully electric catamaran ferry (e-cat) to its operator, AG Reederei Norden-Frisia, in January. The ship can carry up to 150 passengers and will operate in the East Frisian Wadden Sea. Built at Damen shipyards in Poland and the Netherlands, the catamaran has two propellers, each driven by a 600 kW electric motor. In view of the shallow waterways, it was designed with two hulls with a draught of just 1.2 metres. The aluminium hulls and the superstructure, which is also made of aluminium, keep the weight of the ship low, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 1.2 metres.

Als Reaktion auf die angespannte Sicherheitslage richtet die Deutsche Marine die Minentaucherausbildung neu aus. Dadurch werden Tauchgänge in größere Tiefen möglich, denn die Marine müsse sich auf neue Gefahren besser einstellen, so ihr Inspekteur, Jan Christian Kaack. Dazu gehöre, dass [ds_preview] die eigenen Taucher die durchschnittlichen Wassertiefen in der Ostsee abdecken können müssen. Bislang durften Minentaucher bis zu 54 Meter tief tauchen. Nun sei die Ausbildung auf 84 Meter Tiefe ausgelegt worden. Das ist ungefähr die Tiefe, in der im September 2022 die beiden Stränge von Nord Stream 1 und ein Strang von Nord Stream 2 abschnittsweise zerstört wurden....

Für das geplante Offshore-Windparkgebiet „Nordlicht“ vor der Nordseeinsel Borkum haben die Betreiber Vattenfall und BASF jetzt Verträge mit vier Unternehmen gezeichnet. Nach Angaben der beiden Unternehmen sind unter anderem herzustellende Stahl-Fundamente und zu installierende Kabel beauftragt worden. Baubeginn soll laut Vattenfall 2026 sein. Die Inbetriebnahme ist für 2028 vorgesehen. Der Windpark an zwei Standorten liefert mit „Nordlicht 1“ eine Leistung von rund 980 Megawatt und mit „Nordlicht 2“ etwa 630 Megawatt. Die jährliche Gesamtleistung unter Volllast beträgt[ds_preview] ca. 6 Terawattstunden; genug, um rund 1,7 Millionen Haushalte mit Strom zu versorgen. The German Aerospace Centre (DLR) has commissioned Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven to build a new research vessel. The corresponding contract for the base ship was signed at the beginning of February 2025 and is expected to cost around 36 million euros. From completion in summer 2027, the DLR research vessel, which will be 48 metres long and carry up to 20 people, will primarily be used for one-day to multi-day test cruises on the North Sea and Baltic Sea and will be a unique laboratory for real-life experiments. It will also offer the maritime industry the opportunity to jointly develop innovative and climate-friendly energy systems and propulsion concepts based on hydrogen and batteries.
