New population survey: Germany in the military leadership role?

Russia is continuing its war of aggression against Ukraine unabated, while trust in its ally, the USA, is dwindling. How is the German population reacting to this dual challenge? The annual population survey conducted by the Bundeswehr Centre for Military History and Social Sciences (ZMSBw) provides answers to questions on threat perception, transatlantic relations and the willingness to defend Germany. The paint is off

Seen several times: the colour of the fleet service boat Oker is not right. In the picture that has been circulating in some northern German newspapers, you can see how the paint is peeling off. No, it's not camouflage, it's not a Photoshop gag, and no: nobody has tried to paint the silhouette of Eckernförde on the hull. The current livery has not been copied from the patrol boats of the Royal Navy or frigates of the Royal Canadian Navy, and no: it is also not a "camouflage scheme" to prevent/disable optical recognition by enemy forces, as was attempted in the days of the Kaiser. The integration is intended to improve information sharing and coordination between the CCG, the Canadian Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), which has resulted in some adjustments to the CCG's tasks and direction. There are currently no plans to arm the CCG's personnel or resources or to assign additional law enforcement responsibilities to the organisation....

Argentina - wants to buy "queens of the sea" and abolish its "flying ducks"

A national magazine described them as the "queens of the seas", the last two of the eight Maestrale-class frigates (123 metres, 3,000 tonnes) from the 1980s that the Argentinian Ministry of Defence is negotiating with Rome to purchase. Predominantly equipped with underwater weapons, the frigates built by Fincantieri were the backbone of submarine hunting in the Mediterranean for a good 40 years. "Grecale" and "Libeccio" were decommissioned last year and could still provide good service in South America for a few years after a refit - their mid-life conversion also took place twenty years ago. Not exactly cheap to maintain due to their age, but thanks to...
