Port of Hamburg: Western expansion

After Cosco (China) and the planned entry of MSC (Switzerland), the next investment in the port of Hamburg is apparently imminent. According to information from NDR, several large shipping companies have expressed their interest to Eurogate in participating in the major project, including at least two Asian shipping companies in addition to the French CMA CGM. New areas for container handling and two new berths for large container ships are to be created in Hamburg-Waltershof as part of the western expansion. And significantly more space so that freighters can be turned when entering the harbour. The City of Hamburg and Eurogate have been planning this port expansion for years. MS&D: Maritime security a focus of the SMM

The maritime world is exposed to multiple threats, the armed conflicts in the Black and Red Seas being just two of them. Maritime security is an issue all over the world, and not just for the defence sectors. From piracy to illegal fishing: trade and free sea routes are under threat. Against this backdrop, prominent figures from politics, industry, science and navies will meet next September. They will discuss urgent issues of security and defence at sea. The forum for this will be provided by the MS&D Conference, which will take place from 5-6 September as part of the SMM. For the first time, the "Conference on maritime security and defence"...

The "Sun" explores the Indian Ocean

Erstmals untersuchten...

Day of the sea rescuers

The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) has been realising the rescue of human lives from distress at sea and dangerous situations in the German areas of the North Sea and Baltic Sea for 159 years. "Maritime Rescue Day" is held once a year on the last Sunday in July and each participating station offered its own programme on 28.07.2024. At many locations, such as in Cuxhaven, sea rescue cruisers could be visited and observed during deployment and rescue exercises, such as the sea rescue cruiser "Hamburg" on Borkum. In addition, patient transports with rescue boats and, depending on availability, rescue helicopters were demonstrated. Volunteer sea rescue helpers presented themselves at information stands...

Pioneering technologies for safe shipping

From 3 to 6 September, SMM will once again be a hotspot for the maritime industry. In addition to the main topics of decarbonisation and digitalisation, this year's focus will increasingly be on maritime security. Attacks by Houthi rebels on merchant ships in the Red Sea, geopolitical tensions in the Taiwan Strait, armed attacks by pirates in the Horn of Africa: the many critical security situations worldwide pose enormous challenges for the shipping industry. Martin Kröger, Managing Director of the German Shipowners' Association, rightly demands that the protection of ships and seafarers on the sea routes must be the top priority. The shipowners receive support from naval vessels that...
