Another minehunting boat on a NATO mission in the Mediterranean On Monday, 17 June 2024 at 10 a.m., the hollow-barrel boat "Pegnitz" will leave its home port of Kiel. The boat, which is part of the 3rd Minehunting Squadron, will thus make the German contribution to the NATO support mission in the Aegean over the coming months. The Kiel boat has been refitted in recent weeks for deployment in the Mediterranean in order to fulfil its role as a command platform and thus provide the German contribution to NATO's Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 and the NATO support mission in the Aegean. The members of the Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCN) have re-elected individual positions on the Executive Board. The election took place as part of the general meeting on 12 June 2024 in Bremen, and Prof. Bastian Gruschka from Bremen University of Applied Sciences and blueMEC GmbH was re-elected as Chairman. The MCN members elected Kerstin Broocks, Guideline GmbH, as the second chairperson. She previously served as an assessor on the MCN board. "Gorch Fock" returns from the 177th training voyage abroad On Friday, 14 June 2024, the sail training ship will return at 10 a.m. in time for Kiel Week. A total of over 6,000 nautical miles were travelled, including 4,208 nautical miles under sail. The successful training voyage, during which a total of 225 officer cadets underwent maritime training, called at the ports of Gijon (Spain), Tangier (Morocco), Porto (Portugal) and Saint-Malo (France). The amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) adopted in May 2024 provide for mandatory reporting of all containers lost at sea. It is due to come into force on 1 January 2026 and will improve maritime safety and environmental protection. For the first time, clear provisions will be laid down, both for the ship's command and for the speed of reporting.
