Venezuela: New weapons from Iran

Iran is the preferred supplier of missiles for the Venezuelan navy - the Armada Bolivariana de Venezuela. A number of CM-90 maritime target missiles (range 90 kilometres) were recently purchased there, including the support facilities (workshops) and training required to operate and deploy these missiles. These weapons can now also be used to equip the PEYKAAP fast patrol boat platforms that were also purchased from Iran last year, as reported. The exchange of Western weapons systems and platforms with those of friendly countries - not many, especially Russia and Iran, but also China when the opportunity arises - is thus progressing. Interest is shown in...

Roar like a tiger

The Tiger Meet has been an established NATO event for many years. A Sea Lynx from MFG 5 also took part, sporting a striking special livery. Tiger! Tiger! Tiger! - The battle cry of the participants at the NATO Tiger Meet 2024, which was organised by Tactical Air Wing 51 at Jagel Air Base for the third time this year after 2004 and 2014, will probably ring in the ears of the "NATO Tigers" for a long time to come. The NH 90 takes over

The Navy is introducing two versions of the NH 90. This will replace the Sea King, which has proven its worth for decades, in Naval Air Wing 5 in the short term and the Sea Lynx on-board helicopter in the medium term. The recent operational readiness of the NH 90 Sea Lion marks the beginning of a new era at Marinefliegergeschwader 5 (MFG 5). With this modern, high-performance helicopter, the old Sea King Mk 41 and soon also the Sea Lynx Mk 88A will be sent into retirement. Despite a number of start-up problems and technical hurdles, one thing is certain: by 2029 at the latest, the naval aviators with the NH 90 should be able to make their full contribution to a war-fighting...

US Navy - New construction frigate "Constellation"

Keel laying ceremonies are actually completely overrated as a material new start for ships. However, one must be reported here: The keel laying of the first US frigate of the Constellation class at Fincantieri Marinette Marine on the Menominee River in Green Bay/Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. After the less successful designs of the Zumwalt destroyers and the Littoral Combat Ships, the US Navy has high hopes for the basic design of the CONSTELLATION, which originated in Europe. As a frigate, it is now set to become a reliable workhorse again, as the Arleigh Burke class currently is among the destroyers. Smaller than the destroyers, however, the CONSTELLATION is intended to be a multi-purpose frigate that...

US Navy: EloKa weapons against helicopters on the ground

An inconspicuous photo gave it away: As can be seen from the launch symbol under the pilot's cockpit, US Navy pilots destroyed a grounded Mil Mi-24 Hind combat helicopter belonging to the Huthi militia towards the end of February 2024 - and, as was later revealed, using an AGM-88E Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM), which normally targets enemy radar pulses. Detached from a Boeing EA-18G Growler as a long-range weapon, this FK can also be aimed at fixed target coordinates. The Growlers used for electronic warfare were embarked on board the Dwight D. Eisenhower carrier in the Mediterranean at the beginning of the year. Even though the...
